Are Leopard Geckos ok with just a heating pad?

I just got a baby leopard gecko and was under the impression that a heating pad was all you need but now i see alot of people recommending 2 heat lamps...just wondering if that's necessary...i have a metal thermometer on the heated side and it reads 80 degrees, is that alright?...also, the woman at the pet store told me superworms are fine to feed her and she will not even look at them...
